CONTENTS
This workshop is ideal for a relaxed, active intermezzo during a team day, meeting, brainstorming session or away day.
Together with your team you can relax while watching and photographing in nature. Simply with your smartphone. Accessible. To learn by practise. No brain fog. You are released from your busy agenda and haste, and experience more contact with yourself, your colleagues and nature. Not having to perform. Have fun playing and experimenting. More space in your head. Observe attentively and openly. From head to feeling. You will automatically see more possibilities, you will get refreshing insights and ideas. What is the essence for you? How can you omit noise? Simplicity – focus – power.
The workshop starts with simple, playful (sometimes meditative) exercises to help you land in the here and now and to calm down in your head. This will allow you to see much more. Then we grab our camera and you get simple, practical, creative tips, with which you immediately start taking stronger and special photos. Photos that touch. We practice, among other things, with light, composition, sharpness / blur, point of view and timing.
The exercises are varied and I tailor them to what suits your wishes, the group and the moment. From light-heartedly playful to meditative, interactive with the whole group, in pairs or solo; everything is possible.
We walk very quietly and max 1 km. Stand still a lot.
We simply work with the smartphone in automatic mode, flash off, and without image editing apps or filters. From quick snapshot to WOW photo! You will experience that you can do more than you thought.
During the workshop, your telephone (if you do not necessarily have to be reachable) is in airplane mode, so that you are not distracted by incoming messages, you will experience more contact with yourself and each other and so that you can enjoy a creative flow.
Afterwards you will receive atmospheric photos and (if desired) a group photo as a memento of this special shared experience.
SPECIFIC WISHES?
Is there something you would like to have extra attention for during the workshop? E.g. certain photography situations that you often deal with and that you find difficult? Or would you like to be able to take stronger photos for your company’s social media statements, so that you can better convey your message? Would you like to learn how to take flattering portraits? Let me know, I will be happy to take this into account and adjust the content and type of exercises accordingly.
PRIOR TO
I would like to get acquainted by telephone in advance in order to optimally tailor the workshop to your wishes.
Further down this page is a handy list of what you will need for this workshop. You can copy – paste this for your team.
I would like to receive the names of the participants by email at least 2 days in advance, and a notification if there are participants with an allergy (gluten, nuts, etc.). If you have an overview with the names and faces (eg a link to a web page with the team on it, or a group photo with names), this would be very helpful to me.

PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP ‘LOOK DIFFERENTLY’ – simply with your smartphone
by Remke Spijkers – www.remkespijkers.com
Together with your team you can relax while watching and photographing in nature. To learn by practise. No brain fog. Have fun playing and experimenting. By taking more time you will see more. How can you leave out distractions? Simplicity – focus – power. You’ll get simple, practical tips that will help you take stronger photos right away. Photos that touch. No image editing apps or filters. We work with what is available. From quick snapshot to WOW photo!
Preparations / take with you:
Mobile phone with camera. (Unimportant what brand of mobile or how old.)
Mobile well charged and sufficient free memory space.
Charger and possibly a power bank.
Cleaning cloth for the lens (e.g. a glasses cloth)
Clothing that matches the weather forecast.
Please note: we stand still a lot and walk quietly (max 1 km); as a result, you cool off sooner than you might think. DRESS WARMER THAN YOU THINK YOU NEED or bring extra clothes. Tip: layers, merino wool, ski socks. Please make sure you are warm and comfortable, as this will reflect on the entire team.
If possible, wear clothes that can get dirty, so you can work on the floor if you like.
Tip: rain pants help against the cold and you can work on the ground without your pants getting dirty or wet.
Shoes with non-slip soles, so you can feel free to go off the beaten track.
Ticks: are active above 7 degrees Celsius, March through October; especially June and July. Cover your skin, wear socks over your trouser legs if necessary, and check yourself for ticks afterwards.
Leave laptops etc (safely) behind, so that you carry as little as possible with you and can work freely.
If there is a chance of rain: umbrella.
Go to the toilet beforehand. There is no toilet building in nature.
During the workshop we work with our phone in airplane mode, so that we are not distracted by external stimuli and can be optimally creative and with each other in the here and now. (If you need to be reachable, turn off all unnecessary sounds and/or vibrate.)
Are there any details that I can take into account so that you feel comfortable? Please let me know preferably 2 days in advance or at the start of the workshop.
Nice to meet you soon!
Remke
ORGANIZATIONAL
Language: It is possible to provide the workshop in English.
The workshop is only given live. The power of this workshop is to be completely in the here and now and therefore to feel peace and space in your head and to be able to connect with yourself, your fellow participants and the nature around you. No incoming digital stimuli from outside for a while. Online / remote participation is therefore not possible. This would be at the expense of the experience of the participants who are present live and the personal attention that I want to be able to give.
If it rains, the workshop can continue as usual. We are inspired by drops and wetness; it can produce very special, surprising photos! And nothing smells better than the smell of wet forest, right? 🙂 Just getting some fresh air and doing something else; relaxation for your head. I provide comfortable umbrellas if needed. Reactions: ‘That sounds nice, those droplets!’ In consultation, we can also work indoors when it rains if you have a location available, or work indoors and outdoors for part of the time.
In extreme weather conditions such as storm or lightning, the workshop cannot take place outside for safety reasons. If possible, the workshop will take place inside your (meeting) location. If the workshop takes place indoors due to weather conditions, I would like to ask you to have a room available for this with sufficient ventilation and where there is a lot of personal work space (at least 3 m2 pp). We will also – if possible at the relevant location – work in other areas (such as corridors) of the building. It is also possible to move the workshop to another date. Or, for example, to work part of the time inside and part of the time outside. About 2 days in advance, when the weather forecast is known, we discuss if this situation is predicted, how we can best deal with it.

REACTIONS
‘Many thanks for the inspiring workshop Remke! In the individual assignments we learned to focus. And in the team discussion that followed, we brought all these perspectives together and were able to develop our vision. Thank you for the beautiful photos, the wise lessons, learning to observe, taking a distance, the different perspective and the stillness. We enjoyed this team building session!’
Helen Meijer – Innovation Leader Deloitte Greenhouse
‘Hi Remke, the outdoor photography workshop you organized for our Solidaridad team last week was really great! We were able to connect again as a team, sometimes in silence. You inspired us to look, to look differently, and to stay with an object for a longer period of time to find alternative viewpoints. Thanks a lot!’
Boukje Theeuwes – Head of Policy Influencing at Solidaridad Europe

CORONA SAFETY
Relaxation, live togetherness with your colleagues, movement, forest and fresh air are good for your health and strengthen your immune system. You will not find better ventilation than in nature and there is enough space to keep a distance of 1.5 m from each other if desired. With this workshop you can do something fun together in a relaxed, safe way.
If you have complaints that may indicate corona, please do a self-test. When in doubt, stay home.
Wash your hands regularly.
If the workshop takes place indoors due to weather conditions, I would like to ask you to have a room available for this with sufficient ventilation and where there is a lot of personal work space (at least 3 m2 pp). We will also – if possible at the relevant location – work in other areas (such as corridors) of the building.

PARTICIPATE AT YOUR OWN RISK
In all the years that I have been giving workshops, nothing has ever happened, but it is equally important to mention: participation is at your own risk. I cannot be held liable for any physical injury (such as a twisted ankle, tick bite or injury from a falling branch) or damage (such as a dropped mobile). I try to guarantee the safety of the participants as much as possible, but the participant is always ultimately responsible.
